The Honest Truth About Business Success – My Take On The Four Burners Theory

The Honest Truth About Business Success

I’m going to discuss how I run seven-figure enterprises while still leading a balanced life in this article. I’m going to talk explicitly about the “four burners” hypothesis. Stay tuned to learn what that is if you don’t already know. Make sure you subscribe to this blog before we begin. You will be informed in this manner as I produce new content similar to this. Additionally, click the alert notification option on YouTube. Now, at one of my medication sessions with Billy Murphy, my friend James Clear introduced the four burners hypothesis to me. Additionally, the notion makes you seriously consider your personal priorities. Let me now explain the four burners idea to you before I share with you my thoughts on the matter. So let’s start by imagining a stove with four burners as a representation of your life. And each burner represents a significant aspect of your life. Therefore, the first burner stands for your family. Your friends make up the second group. Your health is the third factor. Your work is the fourth burner. According to the four burns principle, you must turn off at least one of your burners in order to succeed. Additionally, you must cut off in order to succeed truly.

My Take On The Four Burners Theory

So, let’s give that some thought. In my blog writings and on my podcast, I cover the topic of work-life balance a lot. And I make a constant effort to have a balanced life since, certainly, you can get everything right. However, the truth is that trade-offs are a part of life. And I’ve already experienced this in a lot in my own life. Guess what your family or friends are going to go through if you want your business to develop to eight or nine figures. In reality, the reason so many business owners feel so isolated and down is because of this. even though they are making a ton of money. To achieve success, they made enormous sacrifices. There is only so much time in a day, so if you choose to prioritize spending time with your loved ones, and friends, or taking care of your health, guess what? Your enterprises won’t be as successful. In other words, we are compelled to make a decision: Would you like to have an unbalanced life? Where do you kick butt in that place? Or do you prefer to lead a balanced life but never achieve your full potential?

Consequently, before we proceed, stop for a moment to consider your priorities and ask yourself, if you believe in this idea, what do you value most? I’ll now discuss the things that I hold most dear. You may then sort of decide for yourself what your values are at that point. My family is certainly my primary priority. My children are currently running themselves like small businesses. They also demand a lot of attention. Ironically, they were therefore simpler when they were little. They were unable to walk or communicate, nor could I ensure that they were receiving an education or transport them to so many events. In fact, I now spend a significant amount of my time mentoring them in volleyball and basketball as well as assisting them with their schoolwork and Russian math. For some reason, I get a lot of criticism for Russian math. But I want to make sure I never miss any of our children’s activities. My parents used to work a lot when I was a child. And while I am grateful for everything they did to raise me and send me off to a top college, I just wish we had gotten to know each other better when we were younger. Kids pay attention to these things, that’s the thing. They will remember if you skip a crucial event like a soccer match. I want to personally make sure I’m there for every one of their events because of this. And most recently, I watched all of my daughter’s performances in The Sound of Music Production at her school from the front row. And even though I might have been a little bit embarrassed by encouraging her, I like to like shout out her name and stuff anytime she’s on stage, but I’m sure she liked my presence. And I’m confident she will recall that I recorded every performance while sitting in the front row and took photos. Now, employment and health are kind of tied for second place in my priorities.

For the purposes of this episode, let’s just refer to it as health. Because I think the following. You can actually boost the intensity of your burger capacity and actually accomplish more with all of your other burners together if you are physically fit and healthy and have plenty of sleep. I used to be terribly out of shape, weigh a lot more, and probably reached my top weight of around 190 pounds back then. This wasn’t that long ago, maybe five years ago. I used to feel weary so, so quickly. I consequently wasn’t as effective at work. Additionally, I frequently lacked the energy to even go out with friends because I worked a long day and was simply too worn out to do so. However, after starting this low-carb diet and losing 35 pounds in just four months, I found that I had a ton more energy than before. With this new diet, I no longer get food comas, which is important since the better shape you’re in, the more you can actually accomplish. In fact, I think that the health bar holds the secret to utilizing all of your other burners to their full potential. After all, being ill prevents you from doing anything. And if you guys have been following me for a while, you may recall that I tore my Achilles tendon back in 2017. And because I couldn’t exercise, that year was actually one of my least productive years ever. All I could do was watch Netflix in bed, and I soon became depressed. My third burner right now is working. But as I’ve already said, my health takes precedence over it significantly. And I’ve addressed this on the podcast before, but my wife and I are purposefully not pushing our e-commerce Store all the way forward. Because when sales dramatically increase, two things always happen. And this is the amusing aspect of the business. Everyone desires rapid expansion and the ability to double or triple their income every single year.

However, as our online store has seen multiple times, when your business doubles or triples, it is extremely stressful since you don’t have enough people or the necessary infrastructure in place to handle all those purchases. Sales then increase as a result, though they frequently do so briefly. And it becomes really stressful anytime there is a rise. And as I’ve already indicated, because our store sells personal things, my wife and I also experience stress due to the increased fulfillment workload. Therefore, we can’t really benefit from three peels. And one thing that my wife and I have found is that when business is extremely good, we quarrel a lot more than when it is slow and stable. As a result, we sort of aim for gradual growth today that is reasonable in terms of stress and cash flow. When all, our seven-figure store generates more revenue than we do, even after my wife quits her job. Now, about my wife quitting her work. I honestly feel that helping people learn how to market is very satisfying. I also like organizing my own event and giving public speeches. Running my wife leave her job.com has a positive impact on my assistant as a result, not the other way around. It’s not like selling bumble bee linens; the less interesting business I have after my wife quits her job, the better I like it because I know I’m truly assisting more people. But I’ll always put my children’s needs ahead of my work. And every single day, I take a break to go to the gym. My current goal is to use my online business as a testing ground for all the newest marketing techniques and e-commerce solutions. And I inform you of everything.

In fact, I think of Bumblebee linens as sort of a crash test dummy right now. And I hardly ever accept sponsors for my podcast or conference unless I’ve either used the product in my business or a trusted colleague has highly recommended it. You can thus believe what I had to recommend because of this. I’ve used it and gone over every small nuance. And while this is just a side note, the fact that I was on the internet today truly irritates me. And I observe all these online service reviews. And they are solely written for search and ranking. Since you can never really get to know a tool unless you go through the nitty gritty of actually running it, I can tell right away that many of these folks reviewing these services have never used the tool. Each and every tool has drawbacks and issues. And the only way to know that is to use it for yourself. Whatever the case, adopting this technique enables me to have the best of both worlds and reduces the stress on my physical items firm, which unfortunately puts my wife under a lot of stress because of Amazon. If you have any questions about that, I’d be happy to discuss it with you. However, Amazon, inventory, logistics, and employee management are the biggest sources of stress. But by focusing only on gradual and steady growth on that side of the business, I am free to explore and discover new ways to expand eCommerce enterprises, which is what I do best. The Friends Burger is now my last burner. Don’t misunderstand me; I sincerely respect my friendships. But when things go really bad, I isolate myself and stop talking to people. When I was depressed in 2017 and just curled up in bed with Netflix, I didn’t really chat with anyone.

Overall, I don’t really have much to say about the friends’ burn, other than to say that I’ll continue to help any friends who require my assistance in a crisis. But if I’m stressed out, working extremely hard on my family, my enterprises, or my health, I can be out of touch with routine activities or just generally hanging out.

So, would you say that I subscribe to the four burns theory? And it’s ironic that my partner Tony and I were discussing this even though she truly rejects this view and resembles a superwoman. She constantly has all the burners going. I have no idea how she manages it. However, the answer is somewhat yes—at least for me. However, the four burners aren’t always black and white in life, at least not for me. So, for instance, by enhancing your healthy burger, you can really raise the intensity of all of your other burgers together, increasing the capacity of your entire burners. In a similar vein, if your support network of friends and family is strong, you might get help in other areas of your life, which could greatly enhance your other burners. So, for instance, if one of your friends has a really high metabolism, you might choose an exercise partner who will benefit your health. Your other burns may get better if you have people who can support you when you need them. If things are particularly terrible in your home, you can spend a lot of time bickering, which will have a bad effect on your productivity and work burner. And when my wife and I were running our firm, this happened frequently. It also happens when a youngster is angry and requires assistance.

Early on, everything affects you again. Thus, there is a particular relationship between each burner. However, in general, you must select your earlier These are? And so, how can you have it all? is the question I’m attempting to answer today. How is it possible to use all four burners simultaneously and still accomplish your objectives? And one method I’m aware of is to employ people. So for a while, we had a chef in our home who prepared all of our meals. And that was very beneficial. I didn’t have to worry about meals when I got home from work because this cook would go out and get it and cook it. She had a pretty cool cook share. The housekeeper would come and prepare meals for various homes, then deliver those meals to various families. We divided it all up. So, in the end, it wasn’t too pricey. Every other week, a housekeeper comes to clean the house as well. Therefore, we are relieved of those concerns. And I won’t lie to you; I’m not the cleanest person you’ll ever meet. Actually, I retract that statement; while I am clean, my home is extremely cluttered with items strewn around. I am simply that way. Currently, we pay a driver to transport my primary school-aged children to their after-school program. I won’t get a break in the middle of the day, like at 230 or 12 on Sundays. Therefore, you can really reduce your workplace stress by adding additional staff. Of course, there are additional stresses associated with employing staff as well. However, you can acquire assistance to maintain all of your burners lit. You can now hire a nanny to help with parenting. However, the main point I’m attempting to convey is that outsourcing doesn’t actually provide a solution to every issue. Additionally, it might prevent you from engaging in certain enjoyable activities. For instance, I really enjoy taking my kids somewhere since that is how I hear about gossip. when either my son or daughter is in the back. They’re discussing school-related topics since, whenever I inquire about it, they never provide me with a straightforward response. I questioned him on the quality of the education and the day’s lessons. Yes, they agree, school is good. I gained knowledge about physics, etc., but what really interested their pals in the automobile?

All the enjoyable chats took place then. Thus, I merely act as a fly on the wall. I keep an ear out to hear the most recent rumors. When it comes to outsourcing for business, if I outsource something that I genuinely enjoyed doing, I occasionally get incredibly bored. Photoshop is one of them, and I occasionally like to edit podcasts and articles. Even if I don’t do as much these days, you still need to exercise caution while outsourcing. Another method to get around the forbearance principle is to use your time extremely efficiently. We always time activities like watching TV, playing games, or just generally wasting time, let’s face it. Right now is winter vacation. And I actually finished 100-hour episodes of the television show Fringe; I think that’s silly. I don’t always act in that manner. But it was really fun. You may be significantly more productive at work by just taking on tasks that will maximize your benefits or make you the happiest. Therefore, I recently reviewed all of the products as I was doing so. And I’m now concentrating on tasks that bring me the most joy or the most money. And in a way, using Bumblebee linens is exactly what we do. We concentrate on our most valued clients, which are the wedding and event planners who do the most business with us. Therefore, if you own a business and discover that you’re, you know, attempting to please everyone or racing on a hamster wheel, do this: go over your complete clientele list. Find out who your best clients are—those who are normally content, don’t complain, and just give you money. Then give such clients your undivided attention while ignoring the difficult ones. In my course, I do this; if I discover that a student is simply not reading the material and is simply asking me questions without first examining anything, I frequently prematurely return their money. In actuality, I’ve done this a few times. And I only recently started doing it because the student was asking me questions that had already been addressed in the first few articles, which was a clear sign to me that they weren’t even trying. These days, when it comes to health, I actually concentrate on the exercises that isolate the main muscle groups. And when it comes to exercising, I hardly ever do anything. I participate in ultimate, which, in my opinion, offers the best cardio value with the lowest chance of injury because it is a non-contact activity.

Similarly to this, I play tennis on Thursdays because I believe it to be one of those games where there is no risk of physical contact and where you can continue to play well into your later years. My father continued to play tennis well into his 70s. Now, working smarter, not harder, is the key to maximizing your burrs. So, these days, when I sit down to work, I put on my noise-canceling headphones and crank, not allowing anything to distract me from my work—or anything else I’m working on, for that matter. I’ll watch 100 episodes of Fringe, though. I just turn it on and watch the entire thing without speaking to anyone. Looking back, my wife and I basically turned off our friends’ burner when we initially began going, which is why Bumblebee Linens was successful right from the bat. We quit going out and watching TV in favor of concentrating only on our business, working nights and weekends. And since I was out of shape and my wife wasn’t exercising, I’m pretty sure the health burner was also on low at the time. However, until we started our firm, those burners were actually only turned off for maybe a year or two, which kind of leads me to my next argument. The four burners are dynamic, so you can fully adjust them on and off whenever you want, just like a genuine burger. You can genuinely make changes as you see fit if, for instance, you describe your week, month, or year. As a result, several individuals have asked me about my itinerary. My workdays are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from around nine to around two. I don’t interact with anyone. In those times. My health days are Tuesdays and Fridays. Tuesdays Actually, the only Thursdays I play are the ones that have already passed. Now, only family and close friends may play tennis on Thursdays, weekends, and evenings. I make an effort to avoid working. Some individuals, like my friend Andrew Deering, will spend the entire year working diligently on their businesses.

Then he will unwind. He is therefore extremely focused for a while. The important thing to understand, though, is that these burners are not always black and white. You can really accomplish a lot more by focusing all of your efforts on one burn for a brief amount of time than if you have them all running for a long time. So it’s kind of like the concept of focusing in business; you want to put all of your efforts into excelling at one thing rather than trying to chase after numerous businesses at once and being ineffective at all of them. All four burners function. Similarly, if you concentrate all of your intensity on a single burn, the intensity of that burn will increase exponentially. But in the end, you have to make trade-offs in order to succeed in life, and you can’t really have it all. And I believe I’ve already done a terrific job with it. I earn more than I can afford to spend. I never miss my children’s activities, and I have enough employment to keep me content. Additionally, I get to make new acquaintances wherever I go because of my job. And this is awesome. I am therefore in Austin, or really in any state in the United States. I can send an email to a fan or a close friend I’ve made at an event, and we can arrange to meet up. So, the crucial query is: Did I manipulate the system? And while I don’t truly believe I have, I’m confident that if I had put everything on the line, I could have built a company with eight, maybe even nine figures in revenue, especially with my relationships in the venture capital sector. But what cost would such advantages have incurred for me? Even now, I don’t spend any of the money I make. Please do me a favor if you have watched this far in the article. Having the way my burners are now set up, I’m actually content with two seven-figure businesses. Thanks for watching, and don’t forget to comment. And tell me what your burger priorities are.
